Montreal After Hours
Montreal After Hours Clubs Guide. Directory Listings & Club List.
By Staff | June 4th, 2005Montreal after hours clubs offer a great selection for places to dance and party all night long. The Montreal clubscene rocks so it figures that the late-night party scene is equally pumping!
Montreal Afterhours Club List
Actually, most are gone. Perhaps it’s a sign that people are tiring of the scene, it’s getting dangerous, or who knows what else.
Circus – Circus Afterhours is another club that plays house music and keeps people partying into the late night. This club is a bit east of Downtown Montreal and apparently has a more French crowd.
Popular Clubs That Are Now Closed
Stereo nightclub was an after hours club that opened after Sona. It boasted a much more impressive speaker / sound system and became the new place to conquer for night owl partiers.
Red Lite was an after hours club in Laval (the island / city north of Montreal). No surprise there. If their website represented them, it shows how crappy it was.
Gravity afterhours is yet another, newer all-night groove club in Montreal.
Eclipse day club is now closed. The club reminded me of Ibiza’s Club Space. It was open all day Saturday, a bit east of Downtown Montreal.
Playground was the first Montreal after hours club. It was located in the Saint Catherine and Amherst street area.
Aria nightclub in Montreal was housed in what was once a movie theatre. It had multiple rooms and has attracted some hot talents.
Sona nightclub (which closed in 2004) was the first large scale after hours club in Montreal. The club featured the hottest names in DJ talents and was always packed. Even though it was right in downtown Montreal, you had to know where to look to find it since the entrance was behind a building which lead to a large basement. The mystery added to the after hours club’s atmosphere. The bathrooms were sex and drug (ecstasy & speed) havens. The crowds would pour into Sona at 3am when the other night clubs would close. Quebec law forbids bars and clubs from selling alcohol after 3am so Sona would sell water, energy drinks (like Guru and Red Bull) and smart drinks (essentially tang with caffeine). 514 Productions, Montreal’s leading rave event promoter, was involved with the club for a while. Sona was a lot of fun but there are other Montreal afterhours clubs to keep you dancing, grooving, partying, and chilling, all night long.
After parties have replaced after hours clubs – a response to the scene that was becoming too commercialized. After parties are smaller scale and held either in a cafĂ©, a loft or an apartment.
keep your ears open at the end of the night to find out where they will be held or ask the dj or the doorman.

I’m trying to find the names of dj’s and music genre that used to play at sona. The house music was differnet from any i have heard since. Despertly searching for that high intensity beat.
Thank you.
